This hatchling could hardly be considered cute.

And look! It has grown wings! At least it isn’t quite as naked-looking anymore.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Every year, eight little Halloween hatchlings go trick-or-treating at various human towns and villages. Ettil is one of the sweetest, gentlest hatchlings one could hope to meet and can't understand why even the nicest humans quickly back away from him. He wears a ghost costume so that nobody will recognize him, as he hasn't figured out yet that it's his odor that is the problem. His close friend, Ettikich, usually finds ways to give him part of her candy to make up for what he doesn't get at the human houses.
