Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zarcain at first appears harsh and arrogant. He is both of those things. However, he also adores hatchlings. He will play with them and tell them stories and is really quite the good nanny. No one knows why he's only pleasant around hatchlings. His flaws shine through when seen with the other elder dragons. His envy of Scylth's position as Leader makes him act out. Zarcain is ambitious, but in the end he has the cave's best interests at heart. Zarcain has two current mates, but his family with Cortzal is most dear to him. Their son Cuzcal is quite bonded with Zarcain and his son's existence is what strengthens the mateship between him and Cortzal. Some believe that Zarcain is giving up on Morshali now that he has a family with Cortzal in the cave.

Zarcain is on the Council of Six as a specialist in battling and offensive techniques. His fiery personality sometimes gets him into trouble with the other elders.
