Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. A long time ago, Night Puka lived with her domesticated mother among a large group of other horse dragons bred to serve humans. However, unlike the other horse dragons in the group, Night Puka's father had been a wild dragon. As a result, Night Puka proved unable to be safely handled by humans, and upon reaching adulthood, she broke free from the stables where she had been born. For a long time, Night Puka lived in the untamed jungles as a part of Ficus Bough's clan, where she relished in her new found freedom. Things changed when she began to wonder about the whereabouts of her birth father. Wanting to find out if he ever thought about her, she set out in the hopes of locating him. Her journeys brought her to a certain volcano located near a human village, where she met Firebird Heart. The two bonded over their desire to connect with their long lost parents, and things snowballed from there.
