Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Folla (pronounced Folya) is a frozen male hatchling. His egg was found abandoned by Loba the dark green female dragon, who was also at the time caring for the dark green female hatchling Zota (now full-grown). Folla was always teased because of his name, which derived from the word foliage.<br/>However, this bullying by other hatchlings ended when he befriended two other frozen hatchlings older than himself. They were Eve Song the purple hatchling and her best friend, the gray Shadow Racer. They defended their new friend and now Folla can walk around without flinching at every passing dragon.
