Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s small, but already likes to play-fight.

And look! It has grown spikes! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Teasingly nicknamed "The Mouse", this young dragon is shy and easily frightened. He is prone to anxiety, and as this sort of behavior is uncommon in most dragons, he is often teased about it. Upon being surprised, he scurries quickly into hiding-- much like a mouse. However, he is a determined hatchling; his thirst to prove himself courageous challenging him to leave his comfort zone. Over time, The Mouse will likely overcome his fears and outgrow his nickname.
