Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn’t true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. These dragons are very violent, and will use their vines to capture, kill, and eat anything that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, their range is limited and they cannot use magic. Dark green dragons tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus are usually surrounded by a large clearing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Of all the quirky Vines of Kaoru's Cave (and there are many), Koda is the most unpredictable. The only two things you can predict about him are 1) he loves his mate and 2) he hates being called a 'Vine Dragon'. He prefers the old fashioned name, Dark Green Dragon. Everything else about Koda is very uncertain, and many dragons wisely avoid him because of this. He has gotten into fights with dragons over the tiniest things: he once tried to attack an Ochredrake because it looked at him. Indeed, some days he's quite violent, but other days he's like a sweet kitten: he apologizes to those he snapped at and offers them gifts. He sings with Ochredrakes and jokes around with Skywings. These are the only days when anyone besides his mate and offspring ever dare converse with him long, but these days are unpredictable. Koda's favorite plant is the Water Lotus or the Tiger Lily, depending on how he is feeling.
