Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pendamara is Starwander Weyr's resident empath and counselor. The latter ability is generally of more use than the former, as most of the beings they encounter either have minds that she can't read at all or have used blocking spells to keep her out. Still, Pendamara's ability to serve as living lie detector does come in handy from time to time. Though Pendamara prides herself on always being calm and serene, there are certain events (such as the presence of her flamboyant and frequently irritating mother) that are guaranteed to make her lose her temper. In addition to Rrykah, her old flame and eventual lifemate, Pendamara has formed particularly close friendships with Dasoong, Xacai, and (oddly enough, given their first few meetings) resident worrywart engineer Bericiel.
