Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Speed Dash was once part of Crystal Tiger Stripe's nomadic dragon herd, until the day their travels brought them to the island home of Shield Tail and Dark Drakon's herd. During his time there, Speed Dash decided to stay on the island permanently, in order to help the herd's hatchlings stay strong and fit. Under his tutelage, the hatchlings all develop speed and endurance, which helps ensure that they will always be able to outrun dragon hunters, as well as various carnivorous animals that prey on young dragons. However, when Speed Dash isn't busy with his duties for the hatchlings, he will sometimes leave the island for short periods of time, in order to go on brief journeys with Flutterstream.
