Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hou Yi is a nomad at heart; he loves exploring and will often take off for days on end, giving off a aura of not caring about how worried his nest-mates were the first few times he did so. He'd always return with 'souvenirs' from his travels for Umino, Kaze and E.P., though, and they soon figured out that it was his way of showing his appreciation that they care (not that he'd ever say it was so. He'd rather die first). Hou considers Rai-hime a nuisance; she'd zapped him on the nose the first time they met, and he's never forgiven her since. Otherwise, he gets along with all the rest, and has even charmed the lovely Kaze to bond with him on occasion, risking the wrath and pranks of her pet brother and his friend Umino while doing so.
