Shadow Walkers are a strange breed that possess the ability to slip between the planes of reality, becoming immaterial. This allows them to hide in the shadows, either hunting from the concealment of near invisibility or evading enemies. Though they become corporeal to mate or to eat, they spend most of the rest of their lives walking in the shadows. Shadow Walkers are wary creatures, though on dark autumn evenings when the leaves fall to swirl in the chill, rain damp air, they may be seen drifting out from the shadows.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dylack is a traveler who has seen and known things that should have never been uncovered. He has known the caress of two lovers breathing their last, the sharp pierce of words soaked in wicked hatred, and those gazes too afraid to lean to either way. Yet each time he has seen these things it has been from the shadows. The Shadow Walker has always lived up to his title, and has such has never firsthand experienced any of the above. Forlornly his misty gaze stays confined to the shadows, wishing he could live alongside them as if he mattered to the world. But of all things he wishes, what he most desires is the attention of his love Raixa, the silver dragoness. This is the only case he has ever broken his cloak of shadow for, and even now he lacks the courage to do more than offer a flower or offer a kiss on the cheek. Perhaps now, however, he will finally find the will to step into the reality he desires the most.
