When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lobi, the water dragon, is one of the caretakers of the Amazon River and a member of the Obi dragons. Obi dragons have "Obi" in their name to honor the Black Ghost Knifefish, Obi, that started the organization to preserve the river. Lobi is the fish expert of the group, his job is to swim around eliminating invading species and to protect endangered fish species. He also has to find sources of water pollution so the pollution expert in the group can clean it up. Lobi is considered a special friend of Obi's, mainly because when they were just babies, they were inseparable. They took names that were similar, and Lobi managed to convince Obi to come to the surface, instead of living at the bottom of the Amazon like the other Black Ghost Knives.
