Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

It was a typical day in Flamingo's cave, and Tarvok was being nibbled on by all the hatchlings. A small chunk fell from Tarvok and rolled into a dark crevice, going unnoticed by all. Overnight, the chunk began regenerating itself, much like Tarvok does after being eaten on. Then, the next day, everyone was surprised to see not one, but now two cheese dragons! Kovrat is identical to Tarvok in every way, since it is a part of the other's body. However, it is apparent that what had happened had something to do with magic, because it hasn't been able to be reproduced since.
