This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Alucard Shruikan was formerly the offspring of a cave dragon, but she was unfortunately born on the day of Halloween, when an unexpected attack on the cave occured. Alucard's egg was one of the many infected eggs, and she died in her shell, only to be hatched as a vampire dragon. The rest of the dragons in her new home are very wary of her feeding habits, and thus, only several hatchlings who play with her, among them, the Guardian hatchling Totakeke, the water dragon Kaigun, and the healing hatchling Tsuki, who is immune to vampirism due to her natural abilities. Most adults in the cave are hostile to the Shruikan family, and thus, she and her siblings are mostly isolated in the cave.
