And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Upon hearing footsteps approaching her nest, Stalker in Ice Skates peers stealthily through long, frost tipped eyelashes. Spying her quarry, she waits with baited breath for it to come closer. Slowly, slowly she shifts her head so as not to be seen, in an attempt to get a better glimpse of the one who approaches. Nearer, nearer comes her prey. From her snow covered perch she watches, blending perfectly with the terrain. Watching, waiting for the opportune moment. Snow crunches, twigs break as, finally, the object of her interest is near. Tensing, she leaps, ice skates slashing dangerously through the cool, crisp air. Crimson coats pure white. It never saw her coming.
