And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

A giddy young beast better known for the size of his heart than the size of his brain, Devoe spends much of his time tumbling with his friends down the slopes of the active volcano upon which he lives. Having already invented the sports of magma dragon riding and ash cloud surfing, his parents are quite distressed about his ability to survive childhood, although thankfully his friends seem to have an endless capacity for saving him from himself.
