When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ryer Ord Star, in particular, has an amazing gift of fortune-seeing. She was named after a famous human who could see the future. When going deep enough in water, she can catch glimpses of visions on her scales. The visions then flow around her, covering her long body in scenes of the possible future. Few dragons have witnessed this spectacle, those being other Water Dragons with the ability to swim as far down. When it was time for her to live permanently underwater, there were no tearful goodbyes. Ryer Ord Star had always felt separated from the rest of the group because of her ability. The clan felt the same way, they had no idea of the gift, but she isolated herself. She now takes the underwater caves 17 miles under sea level, with secret tunnels for the reception of her visions.
