Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is very aggressive, and has brilliant turquoise markings all over its body.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Leto II of Dune is a wild and unpredictable dragon, much like his namesake.  He revels in battle and relishes the feeling of control.  When he is confronted by something strange and unknown, Leto is more likely to try to kill it than to understand it in any way.  His only real companion and the only one he feels understands him is his twin sister.  Leto II dreams of a land flowing with water, where none will ever thirst, but he knows that he might have to make a terrible sacrifice in order to see that world come to pass.
