Daydream Dragons are the hosts of daydreams and fantasies. They spend the majority of their time sitting on clouds, dropping daydreams down into the minds of people passing by. Humans who live near Daydream Dragons must be especially careful not to let their thoughts wander, or they could end up spending hours or even days in a trance-like waking dream state.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ember Nuria was climbing a tree one day, looking for her dragon Midori who had disappeared into the foliage again, when she spotted something above her head. She climbed to the top of the tree and peeked out of the leaves to come face to face with a floating egg.  The blue egg was sitting on a cloud with a big pink swirl right at its center. Gently, she lifted it off the cloud and found that it was unusually light. Ember climbed down the tree, and found to her surprise, that the mini cloud had followed her. Shrugging, she brought the egg back to her home in the tallest mountain of Elgar with the cloud trailing behind. Ember named the dragon Marzena, which means "one that dreams", because as she grew that was all she did. The cloud that had followed her egg grew bigger, and Marzena loved to lie on it. Mostly what she dreamed about was the handsome dragon Syari, who was raised by a friend of Ember's named Flight. Marzena still lives with Ember on her mountain, dreaming the days away.
