Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Joy is kind to everyone in her cave and loves to help out in any way she can. She is an excellent hunter and takes pride in her great skill. She is also very compassionate towards the hatchlings of the cave and strives to raise them to be good, hard-working dragons. Her only glaring fault is her inability to see when a dragon doesn't actually want help, and because of this, she has suffered many a scuffle. While Joy can fight, she really doesn't like to, and will try to pacify her attacker before resorting to violence. She bears a few scars from dragons who have stridently and violently refused her help, but she still remains altruistic.
