Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Midnight is the third son born into the 'Spartan' family of Kaoru's Cave, and the fifth child overall. Like all of his siblings, he is a Skywing: however, he doesn't act much like one.

Midnight is nocturnal, meaning he sleeps during the day and is active at night. He was not born this way, but he wished to spend time learning about what his Nebula mother loved: the night, the stars, constellations, and the moon. He not only became nocturnal, but began memorizing constellations, hunting nocturnal prey, and shielding himself from the sun. Only his oldest sister pesters him about this behavior, but she isn't so ignorant that she didn't notice how lonely her mother was at night, watching the constellations by herself before Midnight came along.
