Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Belyse has the name of an ancient dragon of her breed, one of the very first, who lost her name due to forsaking her human caretaker. Unlike the prideful and nearly forgotten Original, though, this dragon is forgiving and grateful. She barely remembers her mother, who died a long time ago, and is a bit dependent on her mate, Lysande. Like the Thunder dragon that sired her, she can call forth electricity.
