Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hale is one of three unofficial leaders of a band of dragons dwelling in the foothills of an old mountain range. Though generally only active at night and often prone to foul moods, he is sought out frequently for wisdom and stories by his fellow dragons. The females on their nests don't care for him much- he frightens the hatchlings, disturbs the bedding, and causes all manner of havoc, but he's earned the trust of the brute dragon, Kelley The Ram, and several of her supporters, so most within his merry band dare not move against him.

When kept fed, Hale is quite the sociable fellow, surrounding himself with the company of a small pack of drakes and a familiar bloodscale dragon, but every so often he steals off into the mountains. Sometimes it is weeks before he is seen again.
