Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nicholas and his younger brother Noel are rarely seen in the cave, appearing only during the Christmas season. In fact, no one knows where they spend the rest of the year and they both refuse to answer any questions regarding their whereabouts. <br/>Nicholas spends his time with the older dragons in the cave, swapping stories of Christmases gone past and discussing the spiritual meanings of the holiday. He always makes a point of visiting the dragons who live far from the main cave, such as the water and vine dragons, and ensuring they get their fair share of Christmas cheer. <br/>On the last night before he and his brother leave, Nicholas and Whyte, the family leader, will retire to a private cave to discuss many important matters, the details of which are never disclosed to the rest of the family, regardless of how hard Kokuji tries to eavesdrop on them.
