Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Life Has Claws, or Claws for short, has a rather bitter outlook on life, which is how he earned his name. Always the pessimist, he's quick to jump to the worst conclusions. His feelings may be somewhat warranted, however, given that whenever something seems to be going his way, Murphy's Law tends to come into play, and his assumptions are often right. There have been some arguments as to whether or not the worst tends to happen because of his negative temperament or if it really is just bad luck.
