It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In days gone by, Maharas was hailed as her clan's resident clairvoyant. This dignified purple dragon was invariably found lounging at the foot of the mountain she called home, always ready to dispense her seemingly foolproof advice on hunting grounds, weather forecasts and whatever other topics were thrown at her. Her distant, unnerving stare was often referred to as her "looking-into-the-future face".<br/>One day, however, she suddenly began to panic in front of her usual adoring audience. After mumbling incoherently about ill omens and "things with legs", she retreated to the safety of her nest and has refused all visitors since then.<br/>The clan's official line is that Maharas merely gazed too far into the future by accident and will be perfectly fine after she recalibrates her inner sight. A few of the locals claim to have heard Maharas snickering to herself during quiet nights, but none of them have been able to guess what the joke is.
