Grave Dragons are not named for their connections to death or burial, but for the grave expression on their faces. This strange expression is used as a defense mechanism that causes fits of panic and terror in potential predators. Since they only eat ash and charcoal, they do not hunt. Grave Dragons are powerful fire-breathers and have been known to burn down forests and villages alike to make meals. It is believed that the markings on each Grave Dragon’s wings are the faces of those who have lost their lives in fires started by that dragon.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Ampelios Dionysius is the fire bearer of the fire beacon of the volcano tower in his clan and its guardian. The tower is a sanctuary for all his clan members that live in the volcanic clan territory. It is a central point where they come together during either breeding season, for help or to relax. Ampelios is there to protect the clan members when they rest in the tower. The tower itself is inside a sleeping volcano; only when the fire beacon is lit can it be located by other clan members that are not familiar. Ampelios likes to bear responsibility and welcomes challenges. He is reliable and an excellent organizer and is ecstatic when things are done correctly and punctually; Ampelios can quickly react impatiently if others are not as conscientious, orderly and dutiful as he is. Ampelios is able to breathe powerful flames in different colors, so when he lights the beacon he can communicate to his whole clan what is happening in his region. Red for danger or purple for a meeting etc.
