Balloon Dragons are so named because they are filled with a gas that makes them almost lighter than air, similar to balloons. However, they are not prone to bursting, as they are covered in tough skin and can deflate themselves if necessary. In addition, they generally are slow moving. They use their gas bladders to float to the tops of trees, where food is more abundant. They can shift their weight from their backs to their fronts, allowing them to reach leaves and fruit.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. When she was born she got lost and was adopted by another clan. Their clan lived on a separate island. All the other dragons her age always made fun of her size. One day when some tourists came in on a hot air balloon their balloon got caught in a tree and popped. For days they were lost in the woods until they came upon the fire clan her clan. Luckily there was a dragon in the fire clan who spoke English. He told the others what had happened, but that the tourists thought riding on a dragon would be too dangerous for their children. All the dragons glanced to where Air Baloon was. Her mother walked up to her "This is your chance to prove to the other dragons how useful you are," she stated. Agreeing she decided to help them. Moments later they strapped the ropes on the basket to her. As soon as everyone was in they took off. Today the tourists that were stranded and the dragons of her clan think she is a hero.
