Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It won’t leave other dragons alone.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

While the first word that comes to mind when thinking of this hatchling is usually "annoying", devoted tends to come up close behind. A pro at pestering, he heckles and torments and generally drives crazy anyone who gets in his way--unless, that is, they agree to tell him a story. Then and only then will he become the picture of patience, sitting there rapt and wide-eyed as their words transport him into whole new worlds.
