Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys gathering pebbles and other small rocks and putting them in a pile.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Swift, the second earth dragon in the Rain Clan, was looking forward to growing up and being admired for being Emerald's adopted princess beside Spike. She knew Kako was kind to all her dragons, so she did not object as Kako came toward her with the other frozen hatchlings. She only became flustered and scared and furious as Kako told her what she was doing, and as the freezing spell was placed upon her. Now she hisses at Kako and won't let her come near. Normally she is found under Emerald's wing or out in the valley training so that she can be strong as a hatchling, even if she can't grow up.
