Royal Blue dragons are a nocturnal breed who prefer to live high in the mountains near slow-moving water that reflects the night sky. Although quite capable of defending themselves, they are peaceful by nature and will avoid a fight whenever possible.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kunamo'o's mother named him after a terrible dragon known in Hawaii whom tried to kill the moon goddess because he had been driven to madness by her beauty. However, her son Maui heard his mother's cries for help and paddled from the island of Maui to the Big Island in two strokes, as the story tells. That story ends as Maui slays the dragon. His mother named him knowing the kind nature of Royal Blue breeds and love for the moon. When Kunamo'o learned the story of the original Kunamo'o and that she named him in spite of his father leaving her when he was laid, he had left her too when he was of age. Kunamo'o had found a young girl who wreaked of dragons one night as he was desperately looking for food. He didn't completely think through the consequences of leaving his mother. The girl offered him apples that she picked, and she offered her cave for him to recuperate his strength. He decided to trust her, believing things couldn't go worse, and since then he never regretted it or left her.
