Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Orange Billy-Bob was always a simple hatchling. He was silly and sweet, and everyone loved little Orange Billy-Bob. But one day Billy-Bob became very sick, and the only way to save him was to freeze him. With a heavy heart the deed was done, and sweet little Billy was never to age, his sweet childish nature captured forever. However, he found a friend in a fellow frozen hatchling, a cloud dragon named Ileo, and they have been inseparable ever since.
