Manumakalii chased after the piece of corn. She loved corn and would gobble up any she came across, but this particular piece seemed determined to get away. Every time she approached it, it would jump a little further away. Finally she caught up with it, but as she bent down to pick it up, it began to rise into the air. A shadow fell over her as she looked up and saw the hunter who had been targeting the hatchlings in the territory. He held a length of string in his hand and he looked hungry.

Manumakalii calmly held out her leg, showing the hunter the red thread she had tied around it. Puzzled, the hunter followed the thread trailing round to his side with his eyes and just as an even larger shadow fell over him, he looked right up into the eyes of Asherah, who held the other end of the red thread in her claws.

The black dragon and the white chicken ate their meals in piece, Manumakalii finishing off the hunter's bag of corn and Asherah, the hunter himself.
