Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Laid in fall, Ulrik, like all seasonal dragons, absorbed the qualities of the season. Since his father, Roselani, was almost constantly in the skies, Ulrik didn't develop a very strong connection with him. Instead, he forged a bond with an old magi dragon who lived in the cave where he grew up, and who gave him some guidance in using his powers over harvest and withering of plants. If he is ever in need of food, he uses this ability on any plants around that still remain alive to bear fruit in a matter of minutes. Of course, he is versed in the use of offensive magic and melee, which means he can hunt for himself in the dead of winter and protect himself from other creatures. In late summer, he will help farmers with their crops in exchange for a promise of food in winter if he needs it. He lives in a cave under a grove of maples and elms, which keep the autumn colors longer and gain them sooner.
