Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Darkheart is a very solitary dragon. Instead of taking part in activities, he prefers to watch from a distance. When he sits observing from a vantage point, he tends to seem rather lonely, and, if approached, he often disappears using his magic. No one has managed to hold a conversation with him that consists of more than a few lines and doesn't have something to do with protecting others. Why Darkheart feels that he must be the one to protect others (as there are others in the clan who have been assigned to do so) will never be known. But it is believed to be linked to his past when he was abandoned in the winter as a hatchling.

It is also a mystery as to why it seems that he only can be found in winter, hence his nickname, 'The Dragon of Winter', or, an alternate and more lengthy version, 'The Silent Warrior of the Winter'. Some speculate that it is because he travels elsewhere during other seasons. But whatever it is, it shall remain concealed behind his cold and reserved exterior.
