At first, nearly all but the white, mint, and purple dragons treated Peck-Peck with contempt, thinking her presence made the cave appear weak-some even wanted her for a snack. But it was not long before she became a valued and loved member of the cave. Her small size let her remove splinters and stones that lodged in the dragon's scales, and she ate flies and other bugs that bothered them. She cries out whenever humans are near, allowing the dragons to ready for flight or battle, and will sit patiently on eggs as large as herself to help them hatch. Out of gratitude, the other dragons made a roost and brought back several other chickens to keep her company, and she rests contentedly there when not caring for her charges.
