Perhaps among the most venerated of dragon breeds is the Zyumorph, a breed whose selfless heroism and strong moral compass are nearly unparalleled by other dragons. Zyumorphs have an innate urge to fend off wrongdoing, and as such, are often sought after in times of peril. Although they are independently quite capable fighters, it is said that their true might is not unlocked until all six Zyumorphs are brought together in times of great duress.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

So far outside the boundaries of Galsreim that the Goldenmage Assembly is as much a myth to them as they would be to the school's researchers, the Seven Guardians do their part to make Valkemare a little safer. When Seeker at the Weyr's Heart died unexpectedly, Oracle of the Darkest Hour was recruited to be the sixth zyumorph without anyone asking her whether she really wanted the job. Bitter at the loss of her old life and resentful at being just the spare, she didn't even bother to choose another nickname, despite Xeno not really suiting her. She only started to warm up to the others once they had summoned their sinomorph. Despite her title, she possesses no divination magic, but does have a sixth sense for knowing when a situation might go south very quickly. Oracle of the Darkest Hour uses her actual magic talents—basic elemental magic with a side specialty of teleportation—to help those unjustly overshadowed by others.
