Flamingo Wyverns are so named for their resemblance to the tropical birds with whom they often share territory. Their most striking feature is the bony black crest over their faces and snouts, larger in males, aiding both in digging up food and protection when fighting for mates. Males are duller in color than females due to their habit of wandering from nest to nest and picking from less algae-rich feeding grounds.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Balance is named for his more zen personality, at least when compared to other Flamingo Wyverns. He's a quiet dragon, surprisingly taking from his aunt and often skulking in the background, though stealth is not his strong suit like her. He prefers to watch and observe others to understand them, both for social and strategic purposes. As such, many dragons see him as a lurking creep, a notion he's both ashamed of and offended by in a weird blend of emotions. Speaking of emotions, Balance is bad about keeping them on-track. He has a lack of understanding of himself, seeking to do so through watching others, another reason he does this. Despite all the messiness in his mind, Balance is still a very competent fighter and intelligent strategist. He never just flies blind into a fight, he's careful about how he moves and retaliates, but it's threatening when he does. He's rather distant from his family, choosing to stay away from them and their complications to deal with his own.
