Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Yarza, when he appears in the snowy season, is among the few Christmas Storytellers in the castle. He tells the new arrivals his story of choice; one he has named "Snowflake Gift". It tells the story of a young Whiptail named Velo and an old dragon called St. Nicolas. All the hatchlings get excited about the story, excited whispers going through the bunch as they listen to his words. When it is all said they always flood him with questions, his favorite being "Are YOU St. Nicholas", to which he denies with a chuckle. Every year there is always one hatchling who comes up to him before they head off to bed, asking if St. Nicholas is real. Yarza simply nods his heads and leads the young dragon back to his or her bed.
