Mint colored dragons are the most peaceful of all dragons; they only eat plants unless they scavenge meat from an already dead animal. They also have no ways to attack others or defend themselves. They are much smaller than other forms of dragons since they only double in size when they mature. Mint dragons are unable to use magic and cannot fly since they lack wings. Their looks have given rise to the common insult of calling dragons “large lizards.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Perhaps because Laicalin is easily the smallest dragon in her cave, she is often called the "baby" of the cave. Her cavemates do not usually tease her because of her small size, and tend rather to care tenderly for Laicalin, and some even let her ride on them to have a look of the world. Although larger than hatchlings, she is only about the size of an average human, and because of that her human often treats her somewhat like an overlarge doll, climbing in her nest beside her to curl up to sleep. She does not mind it except when the human pokes her in her soft-skinned parts, and likes to touch the skin with her paws and her mouth. She sometimes complains about being unable to fly and fight, and wants to defend herself without help, but knows that she has to keep a friend by to make sure. She has a habit of humming to the sleeping human.
