It’s an undead baby dragon, produced by a failed magical spell. It probably would be cute if it weren’t partially decayed.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

One day, Elorendil came across a little Autumn hatchling in her travels that was cold, alone, and near death. The hatchling had been abandoned to die by its owner for inbreeding. Although Elorendil had striven to keep the dragons in her cave of pure lineages, she was moved to pity and took the poor hatchling in. She nursed the hatchling with tender dedication, but in spite of her care, the hatchling died.

Wishing to give the brave little hatchling a second chance, Elorendil recited the spell to bring her back to life but something horrific went wrong: instead of coming back to life as an Autumn hatchling, the hatchling morphed before her eyes into a Zombie. Filled with grief at her mistake, Elorendil named the hatchling Oiraunquale, which means Eternal Death.

Oiraunquale stayed in the cave, joining with Alyando and Unqualewen, two other Zombie dragons under Elorendils care. The trio have become inseparable and find solace in each others company.
