Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Will is an honest and upright dragon, but he never cared much for politics either way. The Uri clan with which he spent his youth was led by one strong alpha, a Gold male not very well liked. The members of Uri approached Wilhelm to help them get rid of the leader, but he thought a bad leader wasn't any of his problem, so he declined. Everything changed when Gessler the Gold attacked Tell without provocation and even hurt his son. After killing the Gold in a fierce battle he left his old clan and wandered until he found a clan where he could settle down again.

With Herk's clan Tell has found as much peace as he ever will, but he knows, if there ever should rise an unjust leader among them, that he couldn't stand back. Injustice is every dragon's responsibility and none can stand aside.
