Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Ever since it hatched, the sky has been full of very dark clouds.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Viima was a foundling, and a funny and kind hatchling despite the naturally stormy disposition that more or less all dragons of this species display. But soon it became obvious why Viima was abandoned, when the growth stopped and the poor thing discovered that there would be no flying, no mastering of the more difficult weather magic that requires the strength of an adult, and no offspring for little Viima. After the first shock and some weeks of temper tantrums, complaining and sulking, Viima learned to accept this fate, and is all grown up and mature now—at least mentally.
