Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It glows brightly, and seems to prefer warm areas.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sabene was once the soul of a long dead elder dragon, and the soul of a young woman trapped inside the same body in a struggle for control. Both of them suffered tremendously, and those who forced them together paid with their lives--the woman's mother and mages. They had attempted to imbue her non-magical daughter with a power of her own, but caused both the girl and the spirit great pain.

Cursed to live together, they sought an end to their unwanted relationship, eventually finding their answer in a powerful witch. However, she was unable to unravel them without killing them both. The dragon yearned for death again, but the woman held a strong desire to live, and the witch refused to kill them.

Instead of tearing them apart, the witch made them whole and granted them a new life as one soul. Unfortunately, the newly born Sabene returned in the form of a defenseless hatchling with fragmented memories.

Alive again, Sabene has found a quiet home to reflect, and enjoy the small things.
