Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Akagert was always shown a bit of favoritism while young, by his friends, and owner.

He was the first born, as he loves to recall, but his twin brother was hatched only seconds afterward. He considers himself a very kind dragon, as do many others. He fell in love with a dragon named Tralenin, but after she learned his prideful nature, she was infuriated with him and left him for his brother. After this, he spent many months in misery, but was comforted by his many friends. He travels all around the world, and normally will take along small hatchlings if they choose. His fins are such a dark purple, from a distance they look red. He despises red finned dorsal dragons though, thinking of them as an entirely different race. If one word were to be used to describe him, it would be prideful. But the second word, would be kind.
