Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Appley Cider and Show Gun are both vying for Cyclone's affections. Cider argues that he is much more fun than Show, and that Christmas joy is much better than fancy chocolates. Cider also often points out that his ancestors were known for spreading joy to everyone, while Show's ancestors only cared about themselves. He is almost always in a merry mood, and compliments Cyclone whenever he sees her. One of his favorite things to do is write poems, especially about Cyclone. He writes them carefully and well, and keeps them in a special part of Scrollscribe's library. Cider and Show often cross paths, and Cider either sticks his tongue out or insults Show's "Lack of wings" and that he "Looks more like a snake than a dragon". Cider shows his love for Cyclone by bringing her his best poems, and the occasional present, though he often meets Show on his way, and the two argue about whose gift is best. Cider is determined to win Cyclone's love, even if he has to fight that snob Show Gun!
