Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is clearly a water animal.
And look! Its fins have grown larger! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
User Description
Behold, seeker of the dragon lore, Ayti of the Two-finned Blunas. Again you find in heran example of that strange case where a healthy hatchling cannot grow up. Her egg was laid in the shallow water over a reef in the ocean where her parents had mated. The mother who did not recognize the egg as hers abandoned it. The father took to tending the egg after having carried it into deeper waters which is rather uncommon and hardly-observed behaviour in male dragons. Though having only once bred before without caring for the egg, he managed to bring Ayti to the point of growing wings. But maturation suddenly stopped then, be it because of the father's inexperience or the mix between aquatic and non-aquatic breeds. Ayti seems a rather happy hatchling, though, living up to the character of her father's breed in every way. Her father is never far off and ever watchful over his daughter who often comes to him for protection or consolation.
