Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Although his initial oddity of coming to life at night frightened his makeshift brood, they quickly learned to overlook such differences when they discovered Slate to be nothing but friendly, playful, and full of love for those he considers family. However, his rambunctious attitude can sometimes bring trouble when paired with his big size. More often then he would like, Slate finds his hatchling playfulness to prove more destructive then not and he sometimes struggles to find outlets for his heavy, nocturnal energy. Fortunately his bigger brood mates dont mind a good tussle now and then, and on dark, cloudy days Slate is able to join in on long romps through the woods with his family. And, despite his big clumsy claws, his family cherishes the warm heart hidden behind sometimes stone-like scales, and are more than willing to occasionally turn their lives a little upside down to make sure even the oddest, yet most loving, member of their brood gets all of the love he deserves in return.
