Cassare Dragons are known for their magic-deadening abilities. Though not a conscious ability, a large field surrounds the dragon through which magic is passively nullified. This field is strongest near the dragon itself, and falls off with distance. The absence of magic often makes other creatures avoid them, though some will have the opposite reaction and seek refuge instead. It has also caused them to be hunted, as though the field is severely weakened once dead, their bones and scales retain some of the effect. Possessing such an item is considered a necessity by those who expect to face hostile magic.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

April is part of a group of Cassares that has recently moved into a couple of caverns close to Delirium's Academy. Although not many know it, Delirium was actually part of the group who encouraged this move. Some of her students might see this as a sign of distrust from the clan towards the Academy, but as a member of the clan's "leading" council Delirium cannot fault this safety measure.

While their main duty is to keep a close eye on the students and teachers of the academy as well as the Avatar dragoness always hanging around there, April has a project she cares about at least as much as that: Skwell. The poor Magi is afraid of his own mana shadow and always stays close enough to April and her brethren to avoid having to deal with his own magic. April hopes to convince him to give it a try (with her back up of course) sometime, so he can conquer his fear and get his life back. So far she has had no success though.
