Shadow Walkers are a strange breed that possess the ability to slip between the planes of reality, becoming immaterial. This allows them to hide in the shadows, either hunting from the concealment of near invisibility or evading enemies. Though they become corporeal to mate or to eat, they spend most of the rest of their lives walking in the shadows. Shadow Walkers are wary creatures, though on dark autumn evenings when the leaves fall to swirl in the chill, rain damp air, they may be seen drifting out from the shadows.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shadowheart is the leader of dragons in his pack and easily the most cunning and wise. He lives with all the dragons in his pack on a mountain with many caves. There are so many different caves in the mountain that each dragon can have their own personal den. His den is inside the top of the mountain, where he lives alone because he is the last of his kind with the ability to merge and walk through shadows. He is also the leader for his powers and he attacks and defends with shadows. He can also make objects with shadows, like spears and cages. He is also rarely seen because he walks in the shadows of halls, so no dragon knows what he looks like except his friend hellfire and his deputy Broken Night's Fire (But everydragon just calls her Nightfire.) Shadowheart always thinks of the pack, and hates vampire dragons. If he finds stray dragons he chases them away or he will take them in but sometimes he will be unfair or hateful, but he only thinks of his packmates.
