It’s an undead baby dragon, produced by a failed magical spell. It probably would be cute if it weren’t partially decayed.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling was once Takurin. In his lifetime, he was cursed by a wild dragon to stay forever a hatchling for stealing and breaking the only egg in her clutch out of spite when she refused to let him take shelter from the harsh weather.

This unfortunate hatchling's terrible luck resulted in his accidental death, much too gruesome to describe.

In panic, his mother took him to their keeper in order to revive him.

His body is back, but he has no memory.

He has grown into a completely different dragon, with no resemblance in personality to his former self.

In shame of his hideous form, he hides in a casket at daybreak and only comes out in the cover of the darkest nights, when the moon is new.

His only friend is Ansem, as they both come out to the open at the same time. They've come to a mutual understanding of each other, despite Ansem's egoistic nature being in direct contrast to Takurin's low self-esteem. And despite that, Takurin still is very depressed.
